The movie about John Carter is based on Edgar R. Burroughs' (Tarzan) 'Under the Moons of Mars' from 1912 (later part of the collected novel 'A Princess of Mars' from 1917), where the character John Carter is portrait for for the first time. Burroughs' son later developed the character and published it as a cartoon about the hero. John Carter is a war-weary, former military captain who's inexplicably transported to Mars and reluctantly becomes embroiled in an epic conflict. It's a world on the brink of collapse, and Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. John Carter is a 2012 American science fiction action film directed by Andrew Stanton, written by Stanton, Mark Andrews, and Michael Chabon, and based on A Princess of Mars (1912), the first book in the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Jul 25, 2019 It was released in 2012 under the name of John Carter of Mars. The film has a budget of $ 263.7 million and box office proceeds of $ 284.1 million. This movie didn't do a good job in terms of profits. Many movie news sites tell the filmmakers that they don't dare to spend money on the new movie, as this film has suffered box office damage.

Any way you slice it, John Carter was a big fat flop. Which means our chances of ever getting a sequel are essentially zero. But there was a time when Disney was hoping the film would launch a full-fledged franchise. And now, thanks to director Andrew Stanton, we have some idea of where it might have gone. Hit the jump to see what he’s revealed.

For some onlookers,John Carter‘s opening weekend box office take of $30 million in the US earmarked the film as a failure. No one can be 100% sure about the movie’s financial future until the upcoming second weekend returns but it would take a Moses-size miracle for the $250-$300 million film to become profitable in the United States. (To be fair, its $70 million international opening weekend gross is far more encouraging.)
If you saw the film, however, you might agree that, no matter how you feel about its first two hours, the finish is phenomenal and a great cliffhanger for a possible sequel. It has inspired fans to assemble like the armies of Barsoom to tell Disney that, yes, we want to see more John Carter, even if the numbers aren’t too promising. Read more after the jump. Read More »

John Carter hasn’t even been released yet, but a lot of early talk has already focused on potential sequels. Which makes a certain sort of sense. The film, directed by Andrew Stanton, is based on the first in a huge series of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. While this film serves as an origin, once that’s established the real fun can begin. (See Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight, The Empire Strikes Back, etc.)
However, Stanton and his team have been working on this film for almost six years and though he’s started outlining the potential sequel, nothing is set in stone. Will Stanton direct? Does he want to? Will Disney pony up the cash? Can John Carter make enough money to warrant such an expenditure?
In a recent interview I conducted with Taylor Kitsch, aka John Carter on screen, he flat-out said he wouldn’t do a sequel unless Stanton directs. I’m sure the Disney lawyers might say otherwise but you can read his quote, and Stanton’s response, after the jump. Read More »

The first major interview with John Carter director Andrew Stanton has landed and, fittingly, it’s with Harry Knowles from Ain’t It Cool News. Knowles himself produced the property with four different directors over seven years before Paramount lost the rights and Stanton scooped them up. So he’s got a pretty good grasp on the material. His interview with the filmmaker gets incredibly geeky and detailed about the movie itself but is also very forward looking to the second, and even third, books in the series by Edgar Rice Burroughs: The Gods of Mars and The Warlords of Mars. (Stanton also revealed he’s developing a new short at Pixar with Up Mac os x 10.5 dmg free download. director Pete Docter).
Stanton spoke in depth about his fears about tackling those stories, but also revealed that he’s begun the adaptation process and thought long and hard about what story elements, characters and major plot points will appear in the films. If they end up happening at all.
